humorous はラテン語 humor「体液・湿り気」がフランス語 humeur を経て英語に入った humor に、形容詞語尾 -ous が付いた語です。中世医学で体液が気質を左右すると考えられたため、humor は「気分」を経て「ユーモア」へ発展し、humor や humoral も同根です。
Humorous comes from humor, which came through French from Latin humor meaning "moisture" or "body fluid," plus the adjective ending -ous. In medieval medicine, a person's bodily fluids were believed to shape mood and character. Because of that, humor moved from "fluid" to "temper" and later to "wit" or "comic spirit."
