comical はラテン語 comicus を経て、さらにギリシャ語 komikos（喜劇の）にさかのぼります。語幹は komos「宴・どんちゃん騒ぎ」で、comedy や comic も同根なので、「人を笑わせる感じ」が comical の芯です。
