大腿骨とは、人間の脚の最も長くて太い骨です。骨盤と膝を結ぶ位置にあり、体重支持と移動に最も重要な役割を果たします。
The femur is the large bone in the upper part of the leg, between the hip and the knee. It is the longest and strongest bone in the human body. This word is mainly used in medicine, biology, and anatomy.

医療英語では、骨そのものの名前より形容詞形の femoral のほうを先に見かけることがあります。たとえば femoral artery は「大腿動脈」。ここで femor- が「太もも・大腿」周辺を指すと押さえると、femur も自然に「太ももの骨」だとつながります。thigh bone と意味対応で覚えるのも有効です。hip と knee を結ぶ、脚でいちばん大きく体重を支える骨、という位置イメージまで一緒に持つと定着しやすいです。

femur はラテン語で「太もも」を意味し、もともとは部位名がその中心の骨の名になった語です。接頭辞や接尾辞はなく、femoral や femoro- と同根なので、「大腿に関わるもの」という感覚がそのまま残っています。
Femur comes directly from Latin femur, meaning thigh. The word first named the upper leg area, and later it became the name of the main bone in that part of the body. That original sense still appears in related forms such as femoral and femoro-.
