解説 Definition

humidity はラテン語 humiditas に由来し、humidus「湿った」に性質を表す接尾辞 -ity が付いた形です。つまり「湿っている状態」そのものが語の骨格で、数字で空気の水分量を示す意味に自然につながります。humid や dehumidify も同じ humid- を共有します。
Humidity comes from Latin humiditas, based on humidus, meaning "moist" or "wet," with the noun ending -ity for a state or quality. So the word originally meant simply "the quality of being wet." In modern use it became more specific to moisture in the air; humid and dehumidify share the same root.
