解説 Definition
impedance は、電気回路や部品が交流の流れを妨げる度合いを表す量、インピーダンスです。抵抗とリアクタンスを合わせた概念です。
A measure of how strongly an electrical circuit or component opposes alternating current. It combines resistance with reactance, is represented as a complex quantity, and is commonly expressed in ohms for circuits, audio equipment, and signal inputs or outputs.
使い方 Usage

ラテン語 impedīre（足を絡める）から。im-（中に）+ pes/pedis（足）が語根で、「足かせをはめて妨げる」が原義。電気工学では交流回路の「抵抗・妨げ」を表す術語となった。関連語: impede（妨げる）、pedal（ペダル、足の）。
Impedance was created as a technical term from impede, ultimately from Latin impedire, “to entangle or hinder.” That Latin verb is traditionally analyzed through in- and pes or pedis, “foot,” evoking the idea of catching or obstructing someone’s feet. The electrical term was adopted for opposition to alternating current and was formed with the noun ending -ance. Its technical meaning includes both resistance and reactance.
