間氷期は2つの氷河時代の間の温暖な期間です。地球の気候が相対的に温かい時代を指します。
An interglacial is a warmer period between colder glacial periods, or ice ages. It is mainly used in geology, climate science, and history of the Earth. During an interglacial, temperatures rise and large ice sheets become smaller.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
inter- は international の inter と同じ「〜の間」。glacial は glacier（氷河）や glacial period（氷期）の glacial と結びつけるとよいです。すると interglacial は「氷期と氷期の間の時代」とそのまま読めます。point は、glacier が氷河そのもの、glacial が氷の・氷期の、interglacial がその“あいだの比較的暖かい時期”だという区別。ice age の反対語ではなく、氷期サイクルの一部として覚えると定着します。
