解説 Definition

測定できるほどの程度で、目に見える差がある様子。はっきりと分かるほどに。

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip

measure が分かれば中心は「測る」。measurable で「測れるほど明確な」、-ly で副詞になり、「測れば差が出るくらいはっきり」の感覚で覚えると残りやすい。単なる slightly ではなく、数字や比較で差を示せる場面に合う。The drug measurably improved symptoms. のように、改善が気のせいでなく確認できる時に使う。noticeably と近いが、measurably は特に「測定やデータで裏づけられる」感じが強い。なお immeasurably は逆に「計り知れないほど」で方向が反対。

Start with `measure`. Add `-able` to get `measurable`, then `-ly` for the adverb. Think: if something changes measurably, the change is clear enough to show with numbers, not just feelings.

measurably の語源・成り立ち Etymology

measurably は measure+-able+-ly。measure は古フランス語 mesure、さらにラテン語 mensura「測ること」へさかのぼり、「測れる程度に」がそのまま副詞化した形です。関連語は measure、commensurate

Measurably is formed from measure, plus -able and -ly. Measure came through Old French mesure from Latin mensura, meaning "a measuring" or "measure." The word first carried the idea of something that can be measured, and then became an adverb meaning "to a measurable degree." A related word from the same Latin root is commensurate.
