get の語源・成り立ち Etymology
getは古ノルド語getaが語源で、ゲルマン系の「つかむ・手に入れる」感覚につながります。だからgetには「得る」だけでなく「理解する」の意味もあり、頭で意味をつかむわけです。begetやforgetも同じ根です。
