sayは古英語secgan、さらにゲルマン祖語*sagjananに由来し、「語る・伝える」が核です。接頭辞や接尾辞に分ける語ではありませんが、単なる発声でなく「情報を相手に渡す」感覚が中心なので「言う」になるのが見えます。sayingやunsaidも同根です。
