何かについて詳しく説明するのではなく、会話や文章の中で軽く触れたり、話題として持ち出したりすることを表す動詞です。重要な点を簡単に述べる場合にも使われ、長く論じるというよりも「ちらっと述べる」「少し触れる」というニュアンスがあります。
To mention means to say something about a person, thing, or topic briefly, without giving much detail. It is often used in conversation, writing, and reports when introducing information. A mention is usually short and not the main focus.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
mention は「長く説明する」のではなく、「話の中で少し出す」動きで覚えると定着しやすいです。explain や discuss より軽く、just mention it なら「そのことにちょっと触れるだけ」。会話でも文章でも I mentioned it before. のように「前に言ったよね」で非常によく出ます。mention the name / mention the problem の形も頻出。細かく論じる語ではないので、「言及する＝軽く持ち出す」という感覚を固定すると他語と混同しにくくなります。
Remember "mention" as a light action: you bring something up, but do not explain it in detail. It is much smaller than "discuss" or "explain." Phrases like "mention the problem" or "I mentioned it before" are strong memory hooks.
