To explain means to make something clear by giving details or reasons. It is commonly used when helping someone understand an idea, situation, or process.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
explain は simpler な英単語 plain「わかりやすい・はっきりした」と結びつけると覚えやすいです。つまり「相手にとって plain にする」感覚で、情報を並べるだけでなく、理由や仕組みがわかるようにする語。describe が見たままを描写する寄りなのに対し、explain は「なぜ・どうして」をほどく場面でよく使います。explain why / explain how / explain the reason、explain to 人 の形も一緒に固めると定着します。
