explore の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 explorare（叫んで獲物を追い出す→調査する）が語源。ex-（外へ）+ plorare（叫ぶ・泣く）に分解でき、元は狩猟で声を上げて獲物を探す行為を指した。関連語: implore（懇願する）、deplore（嘆く）。探検とは未知の領域に「声を上げて踏み込む」こと。
Explore comes from Latin explorare, which meant first to search out or scout, and may go back to a sense of calling out while hunting. Over time, the idea moved from looking for prey to carefully searching unknown places or facts. The same older sound root may also appear in words like implore and deplore.
