An honorific is a word, title, or form of language used to show respect to someone. It is common in languages and cultures where social relationships, age, or status affect how people speak to each other.

honor が見えたらまず「敬意」とつなげる。そこに -ific が付く語は「〜に関わる性質・表現」を表すものが多いので、honorific は直感的に「敬意を示す表現」。人そのものではなく、Mr., Your Excellency, polite forms など呼称や言い方を指す点が重要。honorable は「立派な」、honorary は「名誉上の」で別物。"honor を乗せた言い方" として、title や speech level と一緒に覚えると残りやすい。
