A microtubule is a tiny tube-like structure inside a cell. It helps the cell keep its shape and plays an important part in movement and cell division. This is a technical biology word mainly used in science.

micro + tube をそのまま分解して覚えるとよい語。micro は microscope などの「小さい」、tubule は tube のさらに細い管で、「細胞の中にあるごく細い管」と像を作る。biology では microfilament と並ぶ細胞骨格の仲間として出やすいので、filament=糸、tubule=管と対比すると混同しにくい。細胞分裂や細胞内輸送のレールになる場面、tubulin という構成タンパク質名も一緒に結びつけると定着しやすい。
