ミズン。帆船の後部に設置された帆またはマスト。
A mizzen is the rear mast on a sailing ship, or the sail attached to that mast. The word is mainly used in sailing and naval contexts and is technical rather than common everyday vocabulary.

船の帆柱名は、位置を並べてセットで覚えると定着しやすい。三本マストなら前から foremast → mainmast → mizzenmast。つまり mizzen は「最後尾の柱・その帆」の担当語。単独でも使うが、実際は mizzen mast / mizzen sail の形で見ることが多い。main が中央の主役、mizzen は後ろでバランスや操船を助ける脇役、と置くと区別しやすい。海事用語なので、一般英語ではまず出ず、船の文脈専用語として覚えるのがコツ。

Mizzen came into English through French from Italian mezzana. The deeper root is Latin medianus, meaning "middle."
