「month」は古英語 monath 由来で、語源的には moon と同じ系列にある語です。関連語 monthly や moon が示す通り、ひと月はもともと月の満ち欠けを基準にした時間単位でした。だから month は暦より先に、空の月と結びついています。
So comes from Old English swā, meaning "in that way," and that comes from Old English þæt. When they were joined, the phrase developed into a common pattern for showing purpose or result.
