解説 Definition
「年」は1月1日から12月31日に至る365日（うるう年は366日）のまとまりで、暦上の時間を表す単位です。年齢や継続期間を述べる際に広く用いられ、「昨年」「来年」「何年もの間」のような表現にも登場します。
A period of twelve months, usually from January to December or from one date to the same date next year. It is used for age, time, experience, and calendars. It is one of the most common units for measuring long periods of time.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
year は day や month より大きい時間単位として、カレンダーが1周する感覚で覚えると定着しやすい。spring→summer→fall→winter と季節が一巡して元に戻るまとまりが year。まず this year / last year / next year をセットで固め、for years は「何年も」、years old は年齢、a school year / fiscal year は「年度」。month と違って「長い区切り」を表す語だと意識すると混同しにくい。
