Mythology is a group of traditional stories, especially about gods, heroes, and the beginnings of the world. It is often connected to the beliefs and culture of ancient societies. The word can also refer to the study of these stories.

mythology はギリシャ語 mythologia に由来し、myth(o)-「物語・神話」+ -logy「語ること・学問」から成ります。myth や logic も遠い親類で、もとは『神話について語ること』だったため、神々の物語集とその研究の両方を指すのです。
Mythology comes from Greek mythologia, made from mythos, meaning "story" or "legend," and logos, meaning "word," "account," or "study."
