necklace は neck「首」+ lace「ひも・編みひも」から成る語で、neck は古英語、lace は古フランス語由来です。つまり「首に掛けるひも」が原像で、飾りより先に形が見える語だと分かると腑に落ち、necktie や interlace に部品が残っています。
