誓いとは、公式に何かを行うことを約束する、または神聖な約束のことです。法的または道徳的な拘束力をもった厳粛な宣言を意味します。
An oath is a serious promise that someone makes, often in public or in an official setting. It can also be a formal statement to tell the truth, especially in court or when starting an important role.

Oath comes from Old English ath, meaning a formal promise or sacred pledge. It goes back to Proto-Germanic *aithaz, and has close relatives in German Eid and Old Norse eithr. The central idea was a spoken promise made with a holy power as witness, which later became the general English sense.
