Omniscient means knowing everything. It is often used in religion for a god, or in literature for a narrator who knows all the characters' thoughts and events.

omni- は「すべてに及ぶ」感覚の接頭辞で、omnivore（何でも食べる）や omnidirectional（全方向の）と同じ仲間。-scient は science と結びつけて「知る・知識」と捉えるとよいです。つまり omniscient は「すべてを知っている」。特に omniscient narrator「登場人物の内面や未来まで知っている全知の語り手」という定番表現で覚えると定着しやすいです。似た omnipotent は「全能の」で、知識ではなく力の話。knowledgeable のような「物知り」より、完全で神的な知を表す強い語です。
