un-「否定」+ inform（ラテン語 informare「形を与える・教える」）+ -ed。inform は元来「内側に形を入れる」で、uninformed は「知識という形をまだ与えられていない」から「無知な」になる。関連語は information, formation。
Uninformed comes from un- plus informed. Inform goes back to Latin informare, which originally meant "to shape" or "give form to," and later developed the sense of teaching or giving knowledge. So uninformed first meant "not given the right form of knowledge," which became the modern sense of lacking information.
