opinionated は opinion「意見」+ -ated からなり、opinion はラテン語 opinio、さらに opinari「考える」にさかのぼります。原義は「意見を強く持った」なので、そこから「自説にこだわる、独断的な」へ傾いたと分かります。opine も同根です。
Opinionated comes from opinion, with the adjective ending -ated. Opinion goes back to Latin opinio, from opinari, meaning "to think" or "to suppose." The word first suggested someone full of opinions, then shifted toward the stronger sense of being too attached to one's own views. Opine shares the same root.
