Outwork means work done away from the main workplace, often at home or by someone outside the company. It is used in business and labor contexts when tasks are given out instead of being done inside one place. The word can be close in meaning to outsourced or external work.

work は分かっていても、outwork をただ「外でやる仕事」と覚えるとぼやけます。factory work の外側にある仕事、つまり工場内ではなく家庭や小さな工房へ回される手仕事、と場面で固定すると残りやすい語です。衣類の縫製や部品づくりをメーカーが家内工業に出す情景を思い浮かべると定着しやすいでしょう。名詞ではこの意味ですが、verb の outwork には「〜より多く働く」という別語義もあるので混同注意です。
