解説 Definition
河川が蛇行してできたU字形の湾曲部、またはその湾曲部が本流から切り離されて生じた三日月湖を指す語。地理・地形の文脈で使われ、川の流路が侵食と堆積によって変化する過程を説明するときによく用いられる。
An oxbow is a curved bend in a river, or a lake shaped like such a bend after the river changes course. The word is mainly used in geography and earth science. It often describes a horseshoe-shaped natural feature.
