An oxidant is a substance that causes another substance to react with oxygen or lose electrons in a chemical reaction. It is commonly used in chemistry, industry, and biology. This is a technical word and often appears in scientific contexts.

oxide（酸化物）, oxygen（酸素）, oxidize（酸化する）が見えていれば、oxid- は「酸化」のまとまりとして覚えやすいです。-ant は assistant や participant のように「〜するもの」なので、oxidant は「酸化を起こすもの」。自分が酸化される物質ではなく、相手を酸化させる側だと押さえるのがコツです。antioxidant（抗酸化物質）と対で見ると、働きの向きが逆だと整理できます。
Notice the `oxid-` part, the same family as `oxide` and `oxidize`. The ending `-ant` often means "something that does an action," so an `oxidant` causes oxidation. It helps to remember it next to `antioxidant`, which works in the opposite direction.
