解説 Definition
すべての欠点や不足がなく、完全で理想的な状態。何も改善する必要がない完璧さ。

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
perfect を知っていれば、その名詞形が perfection。語尾の -ion は「状態・こと」を作る形で、collect→collection などと同じパターンです。つまり「perfect な状態」がそのまま perfection。意味は単なる very good ではなく、「欠点がなく理想に達した完成形」に近い強い語感。achieve perfection, strive for perfection, a quest for perfection のような言い方で覚えると定着しやすいです。excellent は「非常に優秀」、perfection は「これ以上直す所がない状態」という差も意識すると混同しにくくなります。
If you know `perfect`, then `perfection` is the noun form. The ending `-ion` often turns a word into a thing or state, so `perfection` means the state of being perfect. Try remembering phrases like `strive for perfection` or `achieve perfection`. It is stronger than `excellent`, because it suggests nothing is missing or wrong.

perfection の語源・成り立ち Etymology
perfection は中英語を経て、古フランス語 perfection、さらにラテン語 perfectio にさかのぼります。per-「完全に」+ facere「作る・なす」から成り、元は「すっかり作り上げること」なので、完璧という意味に納得できます。関連語は perfect, defect。
Perfection came into English through Old French from Latin perfectio. It is related to perfect and goes back to per- "completely" plus facere "to make" or "do." The original sense was "a state of being fully made or completed," which became the modern idea of complete excellence.
