completenessはcomplete＋名詞化の接尾辞-ness。completeはラテン語complere「満たし切る」からで、com-「共に」＋plere「満たす」に分かれ、completeやdepleteを並べると「完全」は『欠けがなく満ちた状態』だと腑に落ちる。
Completeness comes from complete plus the noun suffix -ness. Complete goes back to Latin complere, meaning "to fill up fully," from com- and plere, "to fill." Because of that history, the word carries the idea of nothing being missing, as if something has been filled to the end. A related word from the same root is deplete.
