解説 Definition
pose は写真や絵のためにとる姿勢、つまりポーズという意味です。日本語の「ポーズ」と近いですが、英語では名詞だけでなく「ポーズをとる」という動詞でもよく使われます。

pose はフランス語 pose に由来し、動詞 poser「置く」へ、さらに後期ラテン語 pausare「休ませる・据える」にさかのぼります。もとは「置かれた姿勢」という感覚で、だから写真のポーズは“体をある形に置くこと”。関連語に pause、repose があります。
English pose came from French pose, related to the verb poser, “to place or set.” Poser developed from a late Latin formation influenced by Latin pausare, meaning “to stop, rest, or cause to rest.” The central historical idea is therefore placing or settling something in a position.
