poser は pose「ポーズを取る」に行為者の -er が付いた語。pose はフランス語 poser に由来し、見せる姿勢をわざと作る感覚がある。posing や poseur も同根で、『中身より見え方を置く人』という流れから『気取り屋』になった。
Poser comes from pose with the agent ending -er, meaning "a person who poses." Pose came through French poser, carrying the idea of placing or presenting oneself in a certain way. From that sense of deliberately arranging one's appearance, poser came to mean someone more concerned with image than substance; poseur is a closely related form.
