confusing は confuse に形容詞的な -ing が付いた語で、confuse はラテン語 confundere に由来します。これは con-「共に」+ fundere「注ぐ」で、confusion や fusion も同根。物事が一緒くたに流し込まれて区別しにくい、という感覚から『紛らわしい』になりました。
