positivity は positive＋-ity で、positive はラテン語 positus「置かれた」← ponere「置く」由来です。pos-/posit- の核は「置く」で、「はっきり置かれたもの」が「明確さ」や「前向きさ」へ伸びました。position も同根です。
Positivity comes from positive + -ity. Positive goes back to Latin positus, "placed," from ponere, meaning "to put" or "place." The idea moved from something firmly set down to something definite or certain, and from there to the modern sense of a confident or favorable attitude; position shares the same root.
