A prompter is a person or device that helps someone remember what to say next. It is commonly used in theater, television, or public speaking. The word can refer to a person giving quiet reminders or to equipment that shows the words.

まず prompt を軸に覚える。「即座の」「促す」の語で、PC の prompt も“次を入力して”と合図を出す表示。そこに人を表す -er が付いた prompter は、「次の言葉や行動をそっと促してくれる人」。舞台裏で俳優にセリフを小声で教える役が典型で、会議や発表で cue や reminder を出す人にも使える。似た形の promoter は“宣伝して広める人”なので混同注意。prompt someone, prompt response と同じ核でつなぐと定着しやすい。
