A tickler is someone or something that tickles. In a wider sense, it can also mean something that causes a light, funny, or slightly irritating feeling.
Build it from `tickle` + `-er`. Just as a `teacher` teaches, a `tickler` tickles. It is easier to remember if you group it with `tickle`, `ticklish`, and `tickling` as one word family.
My sister is such a tickler; she always makes me laugh.
The soft feather was a tickler that made the baby giggle.
He's known as the family tickler because he always tickles his cousins.

Tickler comes from tickle with the ending -er. Tickle came through Middle English and is linked to Low German and related Germanic words meaning to touch lightly and cause a reaction. From that sense of small, repeated touches that produce a response, tickler came to mean someone or something that tickles; related words include ticklish and tickling.
