ticklish は古英語 ticelen/citelian「くすぐる」が土台で、tickle に -ish「その性質をもつ」が付いた語です。tickle や kittle も同根で、触れてむずむずさせる感覚が核にあります。だから「くすぐったい」から、比喩で「微妙で扱いにくい」にも広がりました。
Ticklish comes from tickle with the suffix -ish, meaning "having that quality." Tickle goes back to Old English forms such as ticelen or citelian, meaning "to touch lightly so as to cause laughter or discomfort." From the physical feeling, the word later widened to more figurative uses for delicate or difficult matters. Tickle and the older dialect word kittle are related.
