prospectus はラテン語 prospectus に由来し、pro-「前へ」+ specere「見る」が骨格です。まだ現物のない計画や見込みを“前もって見せるもの”だから、会社案内や目論見書の意味になりました。prospect や inspect も同じ specere 系です。
Prospectus comes from Latin prospectus, from pro- "forward" and specere "to look." It originally carried the idea of a view or something seen ahead. That is how it came to mean a document that shows a plan or expected future result in advance, and it is related to prospect and inspect.
