ラップ歌手とは、リズムに乗せて言葉を発話し、韻や言葉遊びを用いて表現する人のことです。ヒップホップ文化と深く結びつきますが、必ず速く歌うとは限りません。
A rapper is a person who performs rap music by speaking words in a strong rhythm, often with music behind them. The word is mainly used in popular music and hip-hop culture.

rap に「〜する人」の -er が付いた形なので、まず rap を軸にすると覚えやすい語です。rap は「リズムに乗せて言葉を発する」イメージ。その動作をする人が rapper。singer, writer, player と同じく「動詞＋-er＝する人」の型に乗せると定着します。a famous rapper, a hip-hop rapper のように人を指して使う場面を思い浮かべるとよく、wrapper（包むもの・人）とつづりが近い点には注意です。

Rapper was formed in English from rap plus the agent ending -er, meaning "a person who does something." Rap first had senses like "to strike sharply" and later "to speak quickly or sharply," probably from an imitative sound. That idea of fast, sharp speech led to the modern meaning, "a person who performs rap music."
