incorrectはラテン語in-「否定」+ correctus「正された」に由来し、correctはcorrigere「まっすぐに直す」へさかのぼります。「正しく直されていない」が核で、誤りより基準から外れた感覚です。correctやregularも同じreg-「まっすぐ導く」と親類です。
Incorrect comes from Latin in- "not" plus correctus, the past participle of corrigere, meaning "to straighten" or "set right." So the original sense was "not corrected" or "not made right."
