化学反応において互いに反応する物質。生成物に変化する前の出発物質のこと。
Reactants are the substances that take part in a chemical reaction and change into new substances. This word is used in chemistry when describing what is present at the start of a reaction. It is usually used as the opposite of "products."
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
reactants は react（反応する）が見えればかなり覚えやすい語です。まず chemical reaction を思い出し、その反応が始まる前に“入っている側”の物質が reactants、反応後にできる側が products。化学式では矢印の左側にあるもの、と図で結びつけると定着します。語尾 -ant は assistant, participant のように「その動作に関わるもの」を表すことが多いので、「反応に参加する物質」と捉えると忘れにくいです。なお reagent（試薬）と近いですが、reagent は実験で使う薬品寄り、reactant は実際に反応式に入る物質という意識で区別すると整理できます。
