realtor は近代アメリカ英語で、realty「不動産」に行為者を表す -or を足して作られた語です。real estate や realty と同じ real は「現実の」より「土地という実体ある財産」の感覚が強く、不動産を扱う人という意味が形のまま表れています。
Realtor was created in modern American English from realty, meaning property or real estate, plus the ending -or for a person who does something. Here real does not mean "true" but refers to fixed, physical property such as land. The word therefore developed as a name for a person who deals in real estate.
