reassessment は re-「再び」＋ assessment「評価」＋ -ment で、「もう一度値踏みすること」。assess は古フランス語経由でラテン語 assidere「そばに座る」に由来し、assessor と同根で、横について判断し直す感覚から「再評価」になりました。
Reassessment is formed from re-, meaning "again," and assessment, meaning evaluation, plus the noun ending -ment. Assess came through Old French from Latin assidere, literally "to sit beside," which gave the idea of helping judge or determine value; assessor shares the same root. From there, reassessment came to mean judging something again.
