覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
re- が「もう一度」、appraisal が「評価・査定」。まず appraisal を一まとまりで覚えると、reappraisal は「再評価」と自然に取れます。単なる review より、いったん下した判断を、状況の変化や新情報を受けて少し正式に組み直す響きがあります。a reappraisal of the policy / the company’s value の形で出やすく、apprise(知らせる)とつづりが少し似るので混同注意です。
This is `re-` plus `appraisal`. If `appraisal` is an evaluation, then `reappraisal` is doing that evaluation again. It often feels more formal than a simple `review`, especially when people change an earlier judgment because of new facts.

reappraisal の語源・成り立ち Etymology
reappraisal は re-(再び)+ appraisal(評価)で、appraise は古フランス語を経てラテン語 pretium「価格・価値」に行き着きます。price や prize も同根なので、ただ見直すのでなく「価値をもう一度値踏みする」のが核心です。
Reappraisal combines re- meaning "again" with appraisal, a word linked through Old French to Latin pretium, meaning "price" or "value." At first, the idea was to assess value, especially monetary value. Later it broadened to any fresh judgment or new evaluation. Related words include appraise, price, and prize.
