解説 Definition
rectitude は、行為・判断・主張が倫理的に正当であるという「正義」「正しさ」を格調高く述べる名詞です。人物の美徳そのものより、判決、方針、大義、取引慣行などが公正で筋の通ったものかを述べる文脈で映えます。

rectitude の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 rectus「まっすぐな」由来の rect- と、性質を表す -tude が合わさった語で、もとは「真っ直ぐであること」。direct や correct と同根で、道徳的に曲がっていないことが「正義・廉直」になる。
From Latin rectus, meaning "straight," with the noun ending -tude for a state or quality. The earliest idea was "straightness." From there, the sense moved to moral straightness, giving the idea of honesty and right conduct. It is related to English words like direct and correct.
