rediscover は re-「再び」+ discover で、discover 自体はラテン語 discooperire、つまり dis-「取り去る」+ cooperire「覆う」が語源です。cover や covert と同根で、隠れたものの覆いをもう一度外すから「再発見する」なのです。
Rediscover is built from re- "again" and discover. Discover comes from Latin discooperire, from dis- "away" and cooperire "to cover."
