rediscovery は re-「再び」+ discovery で、discovery は古フランス語 descovrir、ラテン語 discooperire（覆いを取る）にさかのぼる。cover や uncover と同じ語源を持ち、「隠れていた覆いを再び外す」と考えると再発見の感じがつかめる。
