finding は find + -ing で、古英語 findan「見つける・出会う」が土台です。語根 find- は『探していたものに行き当たる』感覚で、finder や found にも同じ核があります。だから finding は単なる物でなく、探索の末に得た『発見結果』を含む語です。
Finding is built from find plus the ending -ing. Find comes from Old English findan, meaning "to discover" or "to come upon" after searching. Because of that history, finding often means not just the act of finding, but the result reached by search or investigation, as in finder and found.
