解説 Definition

approach は古フランス語 aprochier、さらにラテン語 ad-「〜へ」+ prope「近く」につながります。核は「近い方へ進む」で、approachable や propinquity も同じ近さの発想。単なる移動でなく、距離や関係を縮める語だと見えてきます。
Approach comes from Old French aprochier, based on Latin parts meaning "toward" and "near." Its basic sense was to move nearer to something. From that physical idea, it grew to include coming closer in relationship, method, or understanding as well.
