Redundancy is the condition of containing unnecessary repetition or extra components. In technical systems, it can also refer to deliberately duplicated capacity that allows operation to continue after a failure. This row does not cover the employment sense.

主にイギリス英語で、仕事や役職そのものが不要になったことを理由に雇用が終了することを指す。本人の非行による解雇ではなく、人員削減や組織再編に伴う雇用上の用法である。
In chiefly British employment usage, redundancy is the loss of a job because the position or work is no longer required, often following restructuring or staff reductions. It does not ordinarily imply dismissal for misconduct.
