Regardless means without being affected by a particular situation, fact, or difference. It is often used to show that the same result or action happens no matter what. It commonly appears before of, as in regardless of something.

まず `regard` を「気にする・意識する」として押さえると、`-less` が付いた `regardless` は「気にしないで＝関係なく」とつながります。実際は `regardless of ...` の形で非常によく出て、「…を考慮に入れずに」というまとまりで覚えるのが効率的です。`regardless of age / cost / weather` のように条件を横に置いて先へ進む感じ。`despite` に近いですが、`regardless` は「他条件があっても気にせず」の感覚が強いです。

regard（注意を向ける）に否定の接尾辞 -less（～なしの）が付いた形。regard はフランス語 regarder（見る）から。関連語は regardless of（～にかかわらず）、disregard（無視する）。「注意を向けない＝気にしない」という成り立ち。
Regardless was formed in English from regard plus the suffix -less, meaning "without." Regard came through French from a verb meaning "to look at" or "pay attention to." So the original idea was "without paying attention," which led to the modern sense of "not being affected by something."
