移転する
解説 Definition
ある場所から別の場所へ移動または再配置すること。建物や事業、組織などが別の立地に移転することを指します。
Relocates is the third-person singular present form of relocate. It means that a person, organization, or object moves to a different place, or that someone moves a person, operation, or object to a new location.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
原形 relocate に三人称単数現在の -s が付いた形。語末が無声音 /t/ なので -s は /s/ と発音し、「リーロウケイツ」に近い。re-「改めて」+ locate「場所を定める」から移転の像を作る。he/she/company relocates と使い、助動詞や decide to の後は原形 relocate に戻す。
Start with the base verb relocate: re- suggests a change or repetition, while locate is connected with placing or establishing something in a location. Relocates adds the third-person singular present ending -s, as in “the company relocates its headquarters.” In a common American pronunciation, it is /ˌriːˈloʊkeɪts/; because relocate ends in the voiceless sound /t/, the ending is pronounced /s/. Use relocates with he, she, it, or a singular subject. After a modal or to, return to the base form: “will relocate” and “decided to relocate,” not “to relocates.”

relocates の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 re-(再び)+ locare(場所に置く、locus「場所」由来)から。「再び場所を定める→移転する」が原義。関連語: locate(位置を定める)、local(地元の)。場所(locus)を改めて設定し直すという意味が転じた。
Relocate combines the prefix re- with locate. Locate comes from Latin locatus, the past participle of locare, “to place,” which in turn is based on locus, “place.” Relocate therefore developed the sense “to place in a new location” or “to move elsewhere.” Relocates is not a separate lexical formation: it is simply relocate plus the regular third-person singular present ending -s.
